The Swiss international is moving from Stade Rennes to VfB on loan for one year.
Fabian Rieder is already in Stuttgart. The 22-year-old has currently moved into the European Championship quarters in the capital of Baden-Württemberg with the Swiss national team. At the beginning of last week, he trained with his teammates on the VfB club grounds.
Fabian Rieder will be a regular there after the European Championship. VfB is loaning the 22-year-old from French first division club Stade Rennes for the coming season. Fabian Rieder made 21 competitive appearances for the tenth-placed team in Ligue 1, scoring three goals.
Before that, he played for BSC Young Boys for six years, with whom he won the Swiss championship title three times. In the 2022/2023 season, he also won the Swiss Cup.
With both Young Boys and Rennes, Fabian Rieder has already gained experience in international competitions from the UEFA Conference League to the UEFA Euro League and the UEFA Champions League. He went through the Swiss national teams from the U15s up to the senior national team, for which he made his debut at the World Cup in November 2022 and has now played eight games – three of them at the current European Championship.
The last one recently on Sunday evening in Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Germany. In this encounter, he started from the beginning of the tournament for the first time after two substitutions and was in the game for 65 minutes.
VfB wishes Fabian Rieder a continued successful European Championship and is looking forward to welcoming him to Bad Cannstatt soon. VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “Fabian Rieder fits in very well with us with his footballing qualities and also with the experience he has already gained despite his relatively young age.
We are convinced that he can quickly become an important factor in our game and warmly welcome Fabian to VfB.” Fabian Rieder: “VfB is an incredible club with great fans. I’m really excited to play in front of this crowd. At VfB, I want to contribute my quality and experience and help the team with the challenges ahead.”
