I leaned on a horse – a poem

category

The life lessons that I hold dear,
Weren’t taught in a classroom, year by year.
I learned them out in the open air,
With a horse beneath me, and the wind in my hair.

I learned of courage, facing every test,
Of perseverance, when the journey’s at its best.
Of trust and loyalty, through every stride,
And the value of hard work, with each ride.

I learned to balance, to adapt and to bend,
To let go of fear, and to be a true friend.
I learned to communicate, without words or speech,
And to understand the language of a gentle reach.

I learned of patience, of calm and of peace,
Of the beauty of nature, and the world’s release.
I learned to respect, to care and to guide,
And to appreciate the journey, step by step, side by side.

The life lessons I learned, riding horses so free,
Have stayed with me always, a part of me.
And though I may not have learned them in a school,
I know that they’re valuable, and forever will be cool
