Bienvenue, Ibrahima Sissoko: VfL Bochum 1848 has signed the 26-year-old midfielder on a free transfer until June 30, 2027.
Sissoko was one of the absolute top performers at the club Racing Strasbourg, where he played almost 200 competitive games in six years, in Ligue 1 and in the Europa League.
The Mali international (one international match) started his professional career at Stade Brest in Ligue 2, making 32 appearances. He then made a lasting impression as a defensive midfielder at Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace.
He first played for the Alsatian club in the 2018/19 season and has since played 179 games in Ligue 1 (five goals, twelve assists) and four games in the Europa League qualifiers.
VfL sports director Marc Lettau said of the signing: “I am delighted that we have managed to sign Ibrahima Sissoko. On the one hand, it shows that our scouting in markets that are new to VfL is bearing fruit and, on the other hand, that we can also convince players who are being courted by the competition to join VfL.
Although he is only 26 years old, Ibrahima Sissoko has long been a key player in a top 5 European league. As such, he will also strengthen us in the coming season.”
Ibrahima Sissoko is also delighted about the move: “I am happy to be in Bochum and at VfL. The move to the Bundesliga is exciting.
