The next time your hands, raise to strike my skin
I’ll gather my strength, and walk out, leaving you within
The walls that once held, our laughter and our tears
Will echo with silence, as I disappear, through the years
The love we once shared, will be reduced to ash
As I abandon the dreams, that we once embraced at last
Two years of marriage, reduced to nothing more
Than a distant memory, that I’ll forever ignore
I won’t seek revenge, or justice in a court
I won’t prolong the pain, or the hurt that we’ve endured
I’ll simply walk away, with my dignity intact
And leave you to face, the emptiness that you’ve created, in fact
For love should never hurt, and marriage should never bruise
But if it does, I’ll leave, and find a love that chooses
To cherish and honor, to support and to adore
Not one that raises fists, and leaves me battered on the floor.
