Arrives on loan from Olympique de Marseille until the end of the season
Pau López has today become a new player for Girona FC. The Club and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement for the transfer of the goalkeeper from Girona until the end of the season.
The new white-and-red goalkeeper, born in Girona but raised in Sant Esteve de Llémana, started playing football in the lower categories of Girona FC until he left for RCD Espanyol at the age of 12. He made his professional debut with the Barcelona club in 2014, establishing himself as the starting goalkeeper in the 2015-2016 season.
In the summer of 2016 the new white-and-red player was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur led by Mauricio Pochettino. Although he did not make his debut in league matches, this experience in the Premiere served him to grow as a player.
In 2018 Pau López was transferred to Betis where he quickly became the starting goalkeeper. His great performance makes AS Roma sign him for the 2019-2021 season. He remains with the Giallorossi team until 2021, the year in which he is transferred to Olympique de Marseille with a purchase option that is finally exercised.
In his career as a professional footballer, Pau Lopez has played 358 official matches, including 100 LaLiga matches, 95 Ligue 1 matches and those played in the Champions League and European League. Among his achievements, the runner-up in the Europa League with Roma and the runner-up in the FA Cup with Tottenham Hotspur stand out.
Pau López has been international with Spain in different categories, as is the case with the Under-21 team, with which he competed in the 2017 European Championship. He was also called up by Luis Enrique with the national team.
Style of play
Pau López is an agile goalkeeper, with good reflexes, an excellent ability to anticipate the opponent’s moves and a great talent for playing with his feet.
