#VfL #Bochum 1848 has extended the contract with managing director Ilja Kaenzig until 2029, thereby sending a strong signal for the future. The 51-year-old joined VfL in 2018 and will act as sole managing director following the resignation of sports director Patrick Fabian. VfL has decided not to fill the position of sports director, so Kaenzig will have overall responsibility.

“Ilja Kaenzig represents VfL’s successful path in recent years like no other – both in terms of sport and structure. Under his leadership, the club has continuously developed at all levels and established itself in the Bundesliga. The fact that we are entering the top division for the fourth year in a row is also largely thanks to him,” says CEO Hans-Peter Villis. “That’s why we are very happy and proud that we have been able to tie him to VfL for the long term and are convinced that together we will continue on the path we have chosen and achieve our ambitious goals.”

Ilja Kaenzig says: “My thanks go to the Executive Board, which has always had great confidence in me and has demonstrated this once again by extending our collaboration. But of course, my solidarity also applies to the employees, whose performance is the basis of our continued success.”

The Swiss-born player now feels at home in Castrop-Rauxel : “Six and a half years have flown by. That’s certainly also because we’ve achieved so much. I’ll never forget how warmly I was welcomed in Bochum and at VfL, and I’m now almost half a Bochum resident,” says Kaenzig.

Hans-Peter Villis: “Ilja has always kept a cool head, even in the not always easy times of late – this is what sets him apart, along with his excellent network and his foresight. VfL will also benefit from this in the future.”
